Inverness Across Beauly Firth

Early morning light breaks out above the mirror-flat surface of the Beauly Firth. By balancing on a seaweed coated promontory I was able to get far enough out into the water to frame this shot without getting wet feet.

Beauly Firth Low Tide

The distant tide left patterns in the wet mud that produced a broken reflection of the evening sky. The seaweed covered rocks seem to emphasise the sense of space as they stretch off into the distance.

Beauly Firth High Tide

The sun sets on the mountains behind the Firth and is reflected in the tide that now covers the mudflats. Although the tidal range is only about three metres, the shallow gradient of the firth means that the difference between high and low tide is very striking.

Contin_View.jpg

Contin View

A flooded field provides a still surface to reflect the red clouds and the dark hills behind Contin. One of the joys of landscape photography is that the same location never looks the same twice!

Kessock Bridge Sunset

The Kessock Bridge provides a great vantage point for the sunset. The thundering trucks passing two feet behind the pedestrain walkway provide an interesting challenge with regard to camera shake. It is well worth waiting for the right moment and a break in the traffic before taking the shot.

Loch Torridon Storm

A bitterly cold wait during a winter's day on the side of Liathach is rewarded by the snow shower lit by the sun breaking through the clouds.

Slioch by Night

Slioch disappears into the grey evening with the silhouette of a Scots Pine to keep it company. The evening light had slipped away with little in the way of a spectacular sunset to leave a colourless night,

Strathpeffer - Winter Sunset

The cold colours of this image do justice to the bitter wind whipping down the glen behind Strathpeffer
